What is included in Cavity Free Kids for Preschoolers and Their Families?

What do you get?

  • Hands-on, in-person training is supported by a training manual to use at your site.
  • Each participant receives a reproducible binder and CD.
  • Enough lessons for a whole year.
  • Ideas for the whole family clearly laid out with instructions.

What supplies do you need?

  • All supplies can be purchased at grocery or office supply stores.
  • Examples of supplies include vinegar, chalk, and zip lock bags.
  • A giant tooth model is helpful!
  • A fun attitude!

What do children and families learn?

Five Essential Oral Health Concepts-information we all need:

  1. Let's Clean Our Teeth
  2. Get a Dental Check Up
  3. Why We Need Teeth
  4. What Hurts/Weakens Teeth
  5. We Can Keep Our Teeth Strong

What is a typical classroom lesson?

Each "Tooth Day" includes:

  • Circle Time — a teacher directed activity (science experiment, demonstration, puppet play, story, song, etc... all included!)
  • Choice Time — Learning Centers: Science Sensory, Table Toys/Literacy, Art, Dramatic Play

Activities clearly outlined for teachers including learning a goal, domain element, supplies, ideas for alternate and extended learning.

How are parents included?

  • Simple parent notes — written in English, Spanish, Russian, Cambodian, Chinese, Somali, and Vietnamese
  • Parent Meetings — light-hearted, informative presentations are outlined including demonstrations, key points, supplies, etc.

    • Family Fun Nights-how to organize
  • Newsletter Articles — ready to print!
  • Home Visitors use a "Tooth Kit" containing supplies to open up discussions about oral health. The kit is easy and inexpensive to make with our instructions and resource list.
  • Home Visitor Guidelines follow the same 5 concepts and clearly outlined goals, key points, demonstrations and discussion starters.

What equipment do you need?

  • Photocopier or computer printer
  • Computer, projector and basic skills for Power Point presentations for staff or parent meeting
