Teaching families about good dental health

Authors and Trainers of Cavity Free Kids

Rebecca Huntley, MSW

Before and while raising three children of her own, Rebecca's interests have centered around children and their families. After earning a Master's Degree in Social Work she fulfilled varied roles at Good Samaritan Hospital (Puyallup): Social Worker in Children's Developmental Unit; Child and Family Therapist in the Mental Health Center; Coordinator of Early Parent-to-Parent Support Project. The last twenty years she has been a Parent Educator at South Seattle Community College Parent Education Program and the A.P.P.L.E. program for parents of preschoolers. As the author of The Sleep Book For Tired Parents, she consults privately and in parenting classes to solve children's sleep problems. As consultant to the Talaris Institute she has edited web publications and written a soon-to-be-published book for moms with newborns.

As consultant to Washington Dental Service Foundation, she facilitates Oral Health education in early childhood programs throughout Washington and neighboring states and is co-author of the Cavity Free Kids Curriculum: Oral Health Education for Preschoolers and Their Families and Cavity Free Kids: An Early Start.

Joyce Hagen, RDH, MA

Joyce is a dental hygienist with experience in both private practice and public health. She received her degree in dental hygiene from the University of Minnesota and her master's degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. With a focus on employee training, Joyce's graduate education has allowed her to combine sound educational techniques with her passion for teaching others about oral health.

Joyce has served as a consultant for Washington Dental Service Foundation for the past six years. She recently authored Oral Health for Caregivers, which focuses on oral health issues and skills for those who care for others. Representing the Foundation, she has presented workshops and programs on geriatric oral health at local and regional meetings. Additionally, Joyce co-authored the preschool and infant-toddler curriculua, Cavity Free Kids: Oral Health for Preschoolers and Their Families and Cavity Free Kids: An Early Start, and facilitates staff trainings for these programs.

Marina Espinoza, M. Ed.

Marina Espinoza has a background in education and community organizing in the non-profit community. She holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science and master's degree in Education from the University of Oregon. She is also a 2003 Fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute. As a former Head Start student and migrant farmworker, Marina understands the needs and challenges of low-income families. Her combined professional and personal experiences fuel her passion to help children and families access services.

Marina is a Program Officer with Washington Dental Service Foundation, where she provides outreach and project management on projects related to children's oral health. Outside of work, Marina is active member of the Latino community, particularly in the area of education.
